O-10 pay in 2027: what is set and what could change

On August 26, 2026 the President's alternative pay plan (House Document 119-189) set the January 1, 2027 raise at 5% for O-10. It takes effect unless Congress enacts something different; the Senate committee's defense bill would make it 3.6% and has not passed. DFAS has not published a 2027 table. O-10 basic pay is at the Executive Schedule cap ($18,999.90 a month in 2026), the raise is subject to that cap, and the 2027 cap has not been published, so no figure is projected here. Status as of November 6, 2026; every grade is on the 2027 military pay chart.

Basic Allowance for Housing is set by the duty station's ZIP code, not the grade alone; these are DTMO's 2026 rates for an O-10. BAS (officer) is $328.48 a month at every grade in the officer table, effective January 1, 2026. Both are tax-free.

What O-10 means in each service

One pay grade, five titles. O-10 is General in the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Space Force; Admiral in the Navy and Coast Guard. Basic pay is set by pay grade and years of service in a single table for every service (37 U.S.C. § 203), so the figures on this page apply whichever uniform you wear.

Basic pay is the floor, not the paycheck. Most members also draw BAH (or government quarters) and BAS, both in the tables above, and where it applies special or incentive pay. How much does an O-10 make in 2026?
$18,999.90 a month ($227,998.80 a year) at every years-of-service step, because O-10 basic pay sits at the Executive Schedule cap (Level II, $18,999.90 a month). That is basic pay only — housing (BAH), subsistence (BAS) and any special pays are added on top.
How much will an O-10 make in 2027?
No 2027 figure can be computed yet. O-10 basic pay is limited by Level II of the Executive Schedule ($18,999.90 a month in 2026) under 37 U.S.C. 203. The President's pay plan of August 26, 2026 (House Document 119-189) raises O-4 and above by 5 percent on January 1, 2027, "subject to the caps", and the 2027 cap amount has not been published. Status as of November 6, 2026.
What is the O-10 rank called in each branch?

When does O-10 pay go up?
O-10 basic pay is at the statutory cap, so longevity does not raise it; only a change to the Executive Schedule cap or a promotion moves the number. Annual pay raises apply to the table itself — the 2026 raise was 3.8%, effective January 1, 2026.
Is O-10 basic pay taxable?
Yes. Basic pay is taxable income for federal and (in most states) state income tax, and it is subject to Social Security and Medicare. BAH and BAS are not taxed. In a designated combat zone, enlisted basic pay is fully excluded from federal income tax and officer pay is excluded up to the CZTE cap — see the CZTE calculator.

Multiply the monthly figure by 12: $227,998.80 a year at every years-of-service step. Drill-status Guard and Reserve members are paid 1/30 of the monthly rate per drill period instead — the Reserve drill pay page shows those figures.
How much BAH does an O-10 get in 2026?
It depends on the duty station, not the grade alone. At 2026 DTMO rates an O-10 with dependents draws $2,490.00 a month at Joint Base San Antonio and $5,586.00 at Naval Base San Diego; the five-installation table on this page shows the with- and without-dependents rate at each. BAH is tax-free and is set by the ZIP code of the duty station (DoD FMR Volume 7A, Chapter 26); the BAH calculator gives every ZIP.
What is O-10 BAS in 2026?
$328.48 a month, the officer Basic Allowance for Subsistence rate effective January 1, 2026 (DoD FMR Volume 7A, Chapter 25). BAS is the same at every grade within the officer table and is not taxed; members who eat in a government dining facility have meal collections taken separately.
