Common questions
Are calculations official?
Estimates. Every rate is pulled from public JTR, DFAS, DTMO, IRS, and VA publications and cited on the page. Always verify with your finance office before making a financial decision — we are not a DoD system.
Is Military Toolkit free?
Yes. No paywall, no account required, and no gated features. Every calculator and reference stays free forever.
How often are rates updated?
Within the week a new fiscal year rate is published. FY2026 rates went live January 2026. LES Auditor, per-diem, DLA, MALT, BAH, TSP, pay tables are all current.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Everything you enter in a calculator lives in your browser and never leaves it. The exception is the AI Assistant — which sends your question to Anthropic to generate an answer but does not log it against your identity.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. Every page is mobile-first and tested on iOS + Android. Install it to your home screen for offline access to the calculators.
Who builds this?
Correia Virtus LLC — founded by Guilherme Correia, an active-duty U.S. Air Force member at Eglin AFB. He is also a husband, father, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, and a final-year Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering candidate at Arizona State University. The tool is built by someone who has lived the PCS, BAH, and DLA paperwork firsthand.
I think a rate on a calculator is wrong — what should I send you?
The page you saw it on, the input you used, the number you got back, the number you expected, and the citation that says the expected number is right (e.g., a JTR paragraph number, a DFAS table screenshot, a DTMO PDF link, a USC section). The citation is what lets us fix the data file confidently. We rarely override a number without one because that risks introducing a worse error.
Will you give me individual finance, legal, or tax advice?
No. We are not a CPA, we are not your installation Staff Judge Advocate, we are not DFAS, and we are not a registered investment advisor. The calculators are math tools that show you what current public regulations would compute. For binding answers on your individual case, contact your installation finance office, your unit Staff Judge Advocate (legal assistance), DFAS at 1-888-332-7411, or a licensed professional in the relevant field.
My finance office quoted a different number — who is right?
Your finance office is. We compute from the published rates, but finance has visibility into your specific orders, dependents, prior payments, and any waivers or holds on your account. Bring our calculator output as a starting point for a conversation, never as a contradiction. If finance is using a number we can't reconcile with the published rate, tell us — that is often how we catch data errors on our side.
Do you cover the National Guard and the Reserve?
Yes, where the entitlement applies. Drill pay (reserve-drill-pay), reserve retirement, and the differences in SGLI/VGLI and SBP are covered. BAH applies on Title 10 orders; per diem and DLA apply on PCS-equivalent activations. The Guard and Reserve sections of each calculator follow the same DoD FMR Volume 7A rules as Active Component members.
Can I link to a calculator result from a Facebook group or Discord?
Yes. Every calculator page has a stable URL and renders correctly when shared. We do not paywall, gate, or track who clicked from where. The only request is that if the calculator returned a surprising number for your situation, please tell us — that is the single best way for us to find bugs.
What we can and can't help with
Things we are good at
Confirming the published rate or formula for a specific entitlement (DLA, MALT, BAH, per diem, BAS, basic pay, TSP match, etc.)
Walking through what a calculator did and pointing to the line in the published authority it used
Identifying a data error on the site, then fixing the data file and citing the corrected source
Suggesting a relevant calculator if you describe what number you are trying to find
Explaining the difference between a planning estimate and a finance-office-issued voucher number
Things we cannot do
Issue an official entitlement decision — only your finance office can do that
Tell you whether to do a Personally Procured Move vs accept a government move (we can show the math; the decision is yours)
Provide personalized tax, legal, or investment advice
Resolve a debt letter from DFAS — the verifier tool catches math errors but the formal dispute or waiver goes through DoD FMR Vol 16 channels
Help with VA disability claim adjudication — the calculator estimates compensation, it does not file the claim
Speak on behalf of DoD, DFAS, DTMO, the VA, or any service branch — we are an independent reference
If your question falls into the second column, the fastest path to a real answer is usually your installation finance office (for pay), the Transportation Office or TMO (for PCS moves), the installation Staff Judge Advocate (for legal questions including SCRA and MSRRA), or DFAS at 1-888-332-7411 (for retirees and complex pay corrections). The Veterans Affairs national line is 1-800-827-1000.
Not a substitute for finance or TMO
Military Toolkit is an independent resource and cannot provide official rulings on your entitlements. For questions about your specific pay or PCS orders, contact your unit's finance office or local TMO.
