Marine Corps FY2027 Reenlistment Bonuses: Every Kicker, the Biggest MOS Payouts, and Why the Money Now Arrives in the Fiscal Year of Your ECC
MARADMIN 023/26 sets the Selective Retention Bonus program for Marines whose contracts end between October 1, 2026 and September 30, 2027: seven kickers up to $50,000, PMOS bonuses up to $67,500 in a single zone, a $360,000 career cap, and a change in when the money is paid. Here is the whole plan, priced against 2026 basic pay.

The bottom line up front
- 1.MARADMIN 023/26 (January 22, 2026) governs FY27 Marine SRBs for ECCs from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027; the Broken Service SRB is suspended for FY27.
- 2.Seven kickers: Aircraft Maintenance up to $15,000, Aircraft Readiness up to $24,000, 84-Month Lateral Move $50,000, 72-Month Mid-Career Lateral Move $35,000, FMF Infantry $7,000 (24 months) or $30,000 (36 months), Air Traffic Control $40,000; one kicker per reenlistment, all require at least 60 months.
- 3.Largest PMOS bonuses: $67,500 for a 7257 air traffic controller E-6 in Zone B, $66,500 for an E-5 lateral move into 0321 in Zone A, $61,000 for a 7291 in Zone C; zone bonuses need 48 months and a $360,000 career cap applies.
- 4.Priced against 2026 basic pay, the $66,500 Zone A award is 16.8 months of an E-5 over 4's pay and about $51,870.00 after 22% federal withholding; an 0311 with the 36-month FMF kicker collects $40,000, 10.1 months.
- 5.New for FY27: SRB payments are made in the fiscal year of the Marine's ECC rather than at reenlistment (paragraph 9.c); lateral-move bonuses pay only after the new PMOS is awarded.
Headquarters Marine Corps released MARADMIN 023/26 on January 22, 2026, and it governs every Selective Retention Bonus paid to an active-component Marine whose Expiration of Current Contract (ECC) falls between October 1, 2026 and September 30, 2027. With fiscal year 2027 a week away, that is the retention cohort deciding right now. The message is settled policy, not a proposal, but paragraph 10 says the Corps can suspend or end the program before September 30, 2027 if the money runs out, and paragraph 9 changes when the bonus is paid: in the fiscal year of your ECC, not at the moment you sign.
Below is the plan as written, the seven kickers, the largest PMOS payouts by zone, the rules that quietly shrink a bonus, and the piece the MARADMIN cannot give you: what each figure is worth against the 2026 basic pay table, and what is left after federal withholding.
Read before you plan on it
The Broken Service SRB is suspended for FY27 (paragraph 3.b). Zone PMOS bonuses require at least 48 months of additional obligated service and kickers require 60 months (paragraph 7.d). You can hold only one kicker per reenlistment (7.g). Career SRB payments are capped at $360,000 (7.e). A lateral-move bonus is paid only after you finish the new PMOS training (6.b). And the program applies to the active component only (11). Confirm your own numbers with your career planner and the FY27 Statement of Understanding.
The six zones
| Zone | Active service on the reenlistment date | Grades listed |
|---|---|---|
| A | 17 months to 6 years | E-3, E-4, E-5 and above |
| B | 6 to 10 years | E-5, E-6 and above |
| C | 10 to 14 years | E-6, E-7 and above |
| D | 14 to 18 years | E-7 and above |
| E | 18 to 20 years | E-8 and above |
| F | 20 to 24 years | E-8 and above |
Years of service come from the Armed Forces Active-Duty Base Date (7.f). A Marine with exactly 6, 10, 14, 18, 20 or 24 years on the reenlistment date may still take the lower zone's bonus if they have not already received one in that zone (5.a through 5.f). Each zone pays once.
The seven FY27 kickers
| Kicker | Amount | Who | Obligation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aircraft Maintenance | $5,000 / $10,000 / $15,000 (one, two, three or more listed NMOS) | E-7 and below, Zones A to C, PMOS 6062, 6092, 61xx, 62xx, 63xx, 6531 | 60 months |
| Aircraft Readiness | $8,000 / $16,000 / $24,000 (one, two, three or more listed NMOS) | E-7 and below, Zones A to C, PMOS 61xx, 62xx, 63xx, 6531, at a listed aviation command for 24 months | 60 months |
| 84-Month Lateral Move | $50,000 | Zone A, lateral move into 0211, 0321, 0372, 1721, 1751, 2336, 3044, 5821, 5974, 5979, 6214, 6314, 7212 or 7257 | 84 months |
| 72-Month Mid-Career Lateral Move | $35,000 | Zone B, lateral move into 0211, 0372, 1751, 2336 or 5821 | 72 months |
| 24-Month FMF Infantry | $7,000 | First-term 0311, 0313, 0321, 0331, 0341, 0352 sergeants and below at a listed FMF command, 24 months in place | 60 months |
| 36-Month FMF Infantry | $30,000 | Same PMOS list, at a listed FMF command, 36 months in place | 60 months |
| Air Traffic Control | $40,000 | Zone A sergeants and below, PMOS 7257 with NMOS 7252, 7253 or 7254 | 60 months |
Kickers stack on top of the PMOS bonus for the zone, if there is one, and the two FMF infantry kickers are paid even when the PMOS bonus is zero (4.e, 4.f). They also carry strings: the infantry kickers make you ineligible for a special duty assignment class during the lock-in months, and every kicker is subject to recoupment if you leave the billet early (paragraph 8).
The biggest PMOS bonuses by zone (48-month reenlistment)

| 6217 / 6218 / 6287 / 6288 / 6336 / 6337 / 6338 | $29,160 | $32,400 |
Zones D, E and F are short lists: 0321 and 0372 pay $45,000 in Zone D and $55,000 in Zones E and F; 1795 and 1799 pay $20,000 in Zone D, $45,000 and $40,000 in Zone E, and $55,000 and $40,000 in Zone F; 2336 pays $35,000 in D and E; 8412 pays $25,000 in D, $45,000 in E and $50,000 in F. The MARADMIN lists MOS numbers only; a title is shown above only where the designation is standard and unambiguous (0211, 0311, 0321, 0372, 2336, 7257). Every amount is the full 48-month figure; the message's own example is a Zone A sergeant reenlisting into 2631 for 60 months who still receives the 48-month $31,750 (7.d).
What the headline numbers are worth in months of basic pay
A flat bonus means more to a corporal than to a gunnery sergeant. The table applies the 2026 DFAS basic pay table to typical grade-and-service combinations for each zone, then shows federal withholding at the 22% supplemental-wage rate the IRS applies to bonuses (Publication 15). State tax, if any, comes on top; none of it applies if you reenlist in a combat zone, where the bonus is excluded from federal income tax for enlisted Marines (see the CZTE calculator).
| Example | 2026 monthly basic pay | Bonus | Months of basic pay | 22% federal withholding | Net before state tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| E-4 over 3, Zone A, 0321LM | $3,482.40 | $64,000.00 | 18.4 months | $14,080.00 | $49,920.00 |
| E-5 over 4, Zone A, 0321LM | $3,946.80 | $66,500.00 | 16.8 months | $14,630.00 | $51,870.00 |
| E-5 over 4, Zone A, 0311 plus 36-Month FMF Infantry Kicker | $3,946.80 | $40,000.00 | 10.1 months | $8,800.00 | $31,200.00 |
| E-3 over 2, Zone A, 5939 | $3,015.00 | $44,000.00 | 14.6 months | $9,680.00 | $34,320.00 |
| E-5 over 6, Zone B, 7257 | $4,110.00 | $64,300.00 | 15.6 months | $14,146.00 | $50,154.00 |
| E-6 over 8, Zone B, 6217 | $4,612.80 | $37,000.00 | 8.0 months | $8,140.00 | $28,860.00 |
| E-7 over 12, Zone C, 7291 | $5,591.70 | $61,000.00 | 10.9 months | $13,420.00 | $47,580.00 |
An E-5 over 4 draws $3,946.80 a month in basic pay; the $66,500 Zone A reconnaissance lateral-move bonus is 16.8 months of it, and roughly $51,870.00 lands after federal withholding. The infantry combination in row three is the one most first-term grunts can actually reach: a $10,000 0311 bonus plus the $30,000 36-month kicker for staying at a listed FMF unit, together 10.1 months of pay for a 60-month contract. The SRB calculator shows the withholding line and the basic pay pages carry every longevity step used here.
The change in timing: paid in the fiscal year of your ECC
Paragraph 9 is the part of this MARADMIN that is genuinely new for FY27. Marines may reenlist ahead of their retention cohort year and lock in the bonus, the duty station and the obligated service, but SRB payments will be made in the fiscal year of the Marine's ECC rather than at the time of reenlistment (9.c). The Corps frames it as career stability under its return-on-investment talent initiative; for you it means a Marine with an ECC of March 2027 who reenlists in October 2026 is paid in FY27, not on signing day. Paragraph 9.e adds a safety valve: if the bonus is not paid within the designated fiscal year, the Marine may request separation within 90 days of the end of that fiscal year.
Two other timing rules matter. Lateral-move bonuses are paid only when the new PMOS is awarded after training (6.b), and a Marine still in that training past September 30, 2027 is paid at the FY27 rate once the MOS posts. And promotion selection can cost the bonus: a gunnery sergeant selected to first sergeant after the selection MARADMIN is released loses PMOS bonus eligibility, while one selected to master sergeant keeps it (7.b).
What to do with this
- Check the zone math before the date. A Marine at exactly 6 years may still take Zone A; a day later it is Zone B, and the tables differ by grade. Your Armed Forces Active-Duty Base Date decides it.
- Price the contract length. 48 months earns the PMOS bonus; 60 months unlocks every kicker; 72 or 84 months are required for the lateral-move kickers. Nothing is prorated upward for extra months.
- Plan the tax year. With payment now tied to the fiscal year of your ECC, the bonus may land in a different calendar year than you expect; a combat-zone month or a TSP contribution decision (TSP calculator) can change what you keep.
- Do not reenlist to reach an officer program. Paragraph 8.b: a reenlistment or extension taken solely to gain obligated service for a commissioning or warrant program does not rate an SRB, and applying after reenlisting can trigger recoupment.
The bottom line
For ECCs from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, MARADMIN 023/26 pays zone PMOS bonuses up to $67,500 and kickers up to $50,000, one kicker per reenlistment, 48-month minimum for the bonus and 60 for the kicker, capped at $360,000 over a career, and paid in the fiscal year of your ECC. Against 2026 basic pay the largest awards are more than a year of pay for a sergeant and about 16.8 months at E-5 over 4, before 22% federal withholding. Rates and pay figures are 2026; verify your bonus with your career planner and finance before you sign.
