Navy Cycle 272 Advancement Results: When They Post, How Quotas Work, and How to Read Your Profile Sheet
Sailors took the Cycle 272 E-6 exam on September 3, 2026 and the E-5 exam on September 10. As of November 7, the Navy has not announced a release date for results or quotas. Here is what NAVADMIN 168/26 and the advancement manual say about where results appear, what each line of the profile sheet means, when advancements take effect, and what making E-5 or E-6 is worth by years of service.
The bottom line up front
- 1.NAVADMIN 168/26 set the Cycle 272 exams for September 3, 2026 (E-6) and September 10, 2026 (E-5); as of November 7, 2026 no results date or quota figures have been published.
- 2.Past fall cycles: Cycle 260 results posted November 22, 2023; Cycle 268 was delayed by the 2025 lapse in appropriations (NAVADMIN 234/25) and was out by December 23, 2025.
- 3.Results appear on NEAS profile sheets, with the data in NSIPS a week later; BUPERS Online lists only E-5 and E-6 selectees. Billet Based Advancement ratings see only PNA, Fail, Inval or discrepancy.
- 4.NWAE quotas become an FMS cut for each rate; the profile sheet shows your FMS against the minimum required. Maximum FMS is 169 for E-5 and 222 for E-6.
- 5.Cycle 272 advancements take effect January to June 2027 by FMS rank; at 2026 rates the raise runs $125.70 to $621.60 a month, and a January date instead of June is worth $628.50 to $3,108.00.
NAVADMIN 168/26 set the Cycle 272 exams for September 3, 2026 (E-6) and September 10, 2026 (E-5), for Active-Duty and TAR Sailors. That part is settled. What is not settled is when results come out: as of November 7, 2026, no NAVADMIN on MyNavy HR gives a release date, and the quotas for each rate have not been published. This page gives the pattern from past fall cycles, the rules that decide who advances, and the pay at stake, without guessing a date.
Release date not announced
The Navy has not published a Cycle 272 results date or quota figures. The newest NAVADMIN on the MyNavy HR 2026 list when we checked, 267/26 of November 5, is unrelated. We will update this page when results post. Pay figures below are FY2026 basic pay from the DFAS table effective January 1, 2026; the 2027 raise is not final. Always verify with your command career counselor and finance office before making financial decisions.
When fall results have come out before
Two recent fall cycles give the range. Cycle 260, the September 2023 exam, posted on November 22, 2023: the navy.mil story that day says the Navy "released Cycle 260 petty officer advancement results for Active Component and Training and Administration of the Reserve (TAR) Sailors." Cycle 268, the September 2025 exam, ran late. NAVADMIN 234/25 of November 25, 2025 said its results "will be delayed due to the previous lapse in appropriations" and that "there is currently no timeline for the release of enlisted results." A Naval Station Great Lakes graphic dated December 23, 2025 congratulated its Cycle 268 advancees, so results were out by then.
So late November is the normal window and late December has happened. Neither date is a promise for Cycle 272.
Where your result shows up
Paragraph 9 of NAVADMIN 168/26 is short: "NWAE and RKE results will be available via NEAS profile sheets." One week after the Fleet release, the profile data posts in NSIPS. BUPERSINST 1430.16H, the advancement manual, adds that BUPERS Online lists "only the candidates selected for advancement for E-5 and E-6," and that individual Sailors can see results in their electronic service record or on MyNavy Portal under "Career & Life Events." Commands pull the Examination Status Verification Report, which the manual calls "the official source for the results."
If your rating is in Billet Based Advancement, your profile sheet will not say you advanced. The NAVADMIN says those sheets "will only reflect Passed Not Advanced, Fail, Inval, or discrepancy status, since advancement is conducted via A2P and CA2P." For Cycle 272 that covers ABE, ABF, ABH, AME, AO, CS, DC, EM, IC, GM, GSM, MM, QM and RS at both grades, plus every Active-Duty E-6 rating except the submarine and nuclear ratings, the Flag Writer Program, MU, SO, SB and TAR Sailors.
How quotas become a cut score
Quotas apply to the legacy NWAE path. The manual says E-5 and E-6 NWAE advancements "are determined from quotas" set by the Chief of Naval Personnel "based primarily on manpower needs for each NWAE rate/competitive group." Each group is rank-ordered by final multiple score (FMS), and "FMS cuts are set to match the quotas." Your profile sheet prints your FMS next to the minimum multiple required for your rate. If yours is at or above it, you advance.
| FMS factor (Table 1-1) | E-5 maximum | E-6 maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Performance mark average | 64 points: (PMA × 80) − 256 | 114 points (RSCA PMA) |
| Exam standard score (range 20 to 80) | 80 | 80 |
| Award points | 10 | 12 |
| Passed Not Advanced points | 9 | 9 |
| Service in pay grade | 2 | 3 |
| Education (2 for AA/AS, 4 for BA/BS or above) | 4 | 4 |
| Maximum FMS | 169 | 222 |
The E-5 performance formula is the one most candidates can check by hand. A 4.00 PMA is worth 64 points, a 3.80 is worth 48, and the one-time 3.60 that NAVADMIN 168/26 assigns to new "A" School graduates with no evaluation in paygrade is worth 32. On the E-6 side the evaluation factor carries 51 percent of the maximum score, which is why the reporting senior's cumulative average matters more than the exam for a First Class candidate.
What the status line on your profile sheet means
| Status (Table 7-2) | What it means |
|---|---|
| SELECTEE | Made the FMS cut for your rate or competitive group (E-5 and E-6) |
| PNA - PTS | Passed but below the cut; earned Passed Not Advanced points for the standard score or PMA |
| PNA - NO PTS | Passed but below the cut; standard score and PMA too low for PNA points |
| FAIL | Below the minimum raw score; no FMS is provided |
| INVAL (several codes) | Cycle record invalidated: insufficient TIR, missing school, PMK-EE or ELD not done on time, advancement withheld, and similar |
PNA points are how a near miss carries forward. For each cycle, the manual awards 1.5 points for a standard score in the top 25 percent (56.59 or higher) and 1.5 for a PMA in the top 25 percent, to Sailors who passed and did not advance. Only the three most recent cycles in the same pay grade count, and the total is capped at 9. The sheet also breaks your exam down by section, with the number of questions in each, which is the study list for March.
Wrong award, education or PMA numbers are fixed through the EAW Post-exam Administration Comment process, with a CO or OIC letter; education corrections need the Joint Service Transcript "Degree Awarded" page, per paragraph 8 of the NAVADMIN.
When a Cycle 272 advancement takes effect
Results are not the pay raise. Table 7-5 of the manual puts E-5 and E-6 NWAE advancements in January through June or July through December, and Table 7-6 sets the limiting date for an August/September cycle at 30 June of the next year. For Cycle 272 that means advancement dates from January to June 2027. Within your rate, the manual says the date "is determined by the Service member's FMS rank": the higher your score, the earlier the month on your profile sheet.
What the advancement is worth, by years of service
The table compares 2026 monthly basic pay in the current and new grade at the same years of service, from our DFAS table. The fifth column is the gap between a January and a June advancement date: five months at the higher rate. Use the promotion pay calculator for your own column and the 2026 basic pay tables to check any cell.
Advancement and years of service
| Advancement and years of service | Current monthly basic pay | New monthly basic pay | Raise per month | January vs June date (5 months) | Raise for 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| E-4 to E-5, over 3 | $3,482.40 | $3,775.80 | $293.40 | $1,467.00 | $3,520.80 |
| E-4 to E-5, over 4 | $3,658.50 | $3,946.80 | $288.30 | $1,441.50 | $3,459.60 |
| E-4 to E-5, over 6 | $3,815.40 | $4,110.00 | $294.60 | $1,473.00 | $3,535.20 |
| E-5 to E-6, over 6 | $4,110.00 | $4,235.70 | $125.70 | $628.50 | $1,508.40 |
| E-5 to E-6, over 8 | $4,299.90 | $4,612.80 | $312.90 | $1,564.50 | $3,754.80 |
| E-5 to E-6, over 10 | $4,395.30 | $4,759.50 | $364.20 | $1,821.00 | $4,370.40 |
| E-5 to E-6, over 12 | $4,421.70 | $5,043.30 | $621.60 | $3,108.00 | $7,459.20 |
The E-5 to E-6 jump grows with service because E-5 pay stops rising after 12 years while E-6 keeps climbing. BAH also changes with grade; the BAH calculator shows the new rate for your duty station. Advancement pay in 2027 will be higher than these 2026 figures once the raise is settled; the 2027 pay chart tracks the plans still in play.
Worked example
Worked example: an E-5 over 10 selected for E-6 in Cycle 272
The month on the profile sheet depends on FMS rank within the rate, so two Sailors in the same rate can see the same result and different dates. Both figures rise once 2027 pay takes effect; neither includes BAH.
Selected Reserve Sailors took a separate exam, Fall 2026 Cycle 119, under NAVADMIN 133/26; this page covers the Active-Duty and TAR cycle. Rates shown are FY2026 basic pay; always verify with your finance office before making financial decisions.

The 2027 Military Pay Raise: 7-6-5 Is Set, 3.6% Is Still on the Table
On August 26, 2026 the President set the January 2027 raise at 7% for E-5 and below, 6% for E-6 to O-3 and 5% for O-4 and above. The Senate committee's defense bill would make it a flat 3.6% instead. The gap is worth $1,200.00 to $2,200.00 a year depending on your rank. Here is the real math on your paycheck.

Is the Navy Stopping SRBs? No Message Says So, but the Law Behind Every Reenlistment Bonus Expires December 31
No NAVADMIN pauses the Selective Reenlistment Bonus, and the FY27 chart cuts that took effect October 8 were announced in September. The real date is December 31, 2026: 37 U.S.C. 331, the authority the Navy signs every SRB under, says no agreement may be entered after it, and the FY2027 NDAA that would extend it is stalled in the Senate. In 2008 the same miss stopped new bonus contracts for four weeks. Here is the law, the 35-day arithmetic, and what a four-year SRB is worth by rating.
