Purpose, in the publication’s words

This instruction provides guidance to develop, maintain, and manage readiness training. It codifies a Ready Airman Training Council (RATC) which ensures cross-functional advocacy and oversight of training requirements and resources by key stakeholders. It outlines roles and responsibilities for comprehensive skill training and provides a process to ensure ART in-residence course requirements are formally linked to the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution cycle. 6 AFI10-405 30 APRIL 2026

Summary of changes, as printed

This document has been revised and should be completely reviewed. Changes include updates to the Air Force's approach to RAT by embracing an "Always Ready" philosophy and strengthening the link between RAT and the Air Force Force Generation (AFFORGEN) model. Key changes include redefined readiness categories IAW Appendix 1 of the AFFORGEN Support Plan (AFFORGENSP) (OPR: Air Force Global Force Management Division (AF/A33D)), which is based on the AFFORGEN Employment Force Indicator (AEFI), and a clear emphasis on efficiency in training resource management. The document also provides specific guidance for Individual Mobilization Augmentees (IMAs), streamlines access to information by highlighting the AFFORGEN Connect Knowledge Base RAT website: https://envision.af.mil/afc, and updates terminology and references to reflect current Air Force structure and publications. Further changes to AFI 10-405 emphasize in-person mass briefings as a key delivery method for Ready Training Areas (RTA). Commanders retain flexibility to tailor training within these briefings, aligning it not only with RTA objectives but also with the unit's Mission Essential Task List (METL) and deployment-specific mission needs. Resources and standardization will be improved through AETC/A3L providing AF/A34-approved RTA descriptions, objectives, and lesson plans in the current AF Learning Management System and AFFORGEN Connect RAT Knowledge Base.
