Purpose, in the publication’s words

This publication implements Department of the Air Force Policy Directive (DAFPD) 21-1, Maintenance of Military Materiel; and is consistent with AFPD 13-5, Air Force Nuclear Mission. It is the basic Department of the Air Force Instruction (DAFI) that establishes inventory, status, and utilization reporting requirements and provides guidance and direction for managing mission- essential systems and equipment hereafter referred to collectively as “weapon systems”. It is applicable to United States Air Force (USAF) and United States Space Force (USSF), Air Force Reserve (AFR), Air National Guard (ANG) and Department of the Air Force civilian personnel. Major Commands (MAJCOMs) and USSF Field Commands (FLDCOMs) may supplement this instruction. Supplements must identify required deviations (e.g., applicability, variance, and/or differences in organizational placement of responsibilities and/or processes) in the supplement with the term deviation [DEV], abbreviation “DEV”. Place the “DEV” entry after the paragraph

Summary of changes, as printed

This publication has been substantially revised and must be completely reviewed in its entirety. This interim change incorporates published guidance from the Department of the Air Force Guidance Memorandum (DAFGM) 2024-01. New requirements in Chapter 1 new requirements for lead command reporting for mission capable aircraft standards and goals. Chapter 2 for aerospace vehicle status detail on maintenance progression by capturing limiting factors and delays to enhance weapons systems analysis. Chapter 10 has been completely revised for aircraft avionics pod reporting and accountability. Attachment 2 Air Force standard algorithms have been removed and referenced to the source document TO 00-20-2, Maintenance Data Documentation. Finally, the identified waiver authority for requirements within this publication has been corrected to meet the guidelines set forth in DAFMAN 90-161, Publishing Processes and Procedures. A margin bar (|) indicates newly revised material.
