Purpose, in the publication’s words
This instruction implements Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 91-2, Safety Programs, and references Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 6055.04, DoD Motor Vehicle and Traffic Safety. The Traffic Safety Program’s goal is to prevent or reduce the frequency and severity of vehicular mishaps involving Department of the Air Force (DAF) personnel, equipment, and operations. This instruction applies to individuals at all levels who are uniformed members or civilian employees of the Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve (AFR), ANG, and the United States Space Force (USSF), and those who are contractually obligated to comply with DAF publications. Additionally, it applies to all DAF installations, including DAF-controlled installations. Ensure all records generated as a result of processes prescribed in this publication adhere to Air Force Instruction (AFI) 33-322, Records Management and Information Governance Program, and are disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition Schedule,
Summary of changes, as printed
This document is substantially revised and must be completely reviewed. This revision clarifies changes to the DoDI 6055.04, adherence to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), new definitions of vehicle types and a new Chapter 5, Tactical Vehicle Safety. Additionally, it clarifies acronyms usage, ensures Tier/Waiver requirements meet established guidelines, and establishes the instruction as a DAF publication, thus, providing guidance for both the United States Air Force (USAF) and USSF.
